Ferris State women's soccer team defeated the Tiffin Dragons 2-1 in a heated contest that marks the opening game of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference play. Freshman Bulldog midfielder Abigal Gilmore sealed the 2-1 outcome at 82:51 with an amazing shot that was assisted on by fellow freshman Mackenzie Dawes.
Tiffin and Ferris pressured late in the first half but were unable to convert. Both teams headed into half-time frustrated with the 0-0 tie. Seventeen minutes later FSU junior captain forward Carley Dubbert showed off her impressive striking ability to give Ferris State the first score of the game (FSU 1-0 TU) with assist to sophomore forward Brandi Wagner. Tiffin responsed seventeen minutes later at 79:24 with a break away goal by senior forward/midfielder Svetlana Gudenkova (FSU 1-1 TU). After Gilmore's goal at 82:51 (FSU 2-1 TU), the Dragons were unable to get past Ferris' stifling defense to force over time.
Key Stats: Ferris goalie Grace Kraft had nine saves in the win while the Bulldogs overall attempted nineteen shots-on-goal.
